A member asked:

Does a test result for the ebv vca igg of 433 u/ml tell one anything in isolation - or does one need igm and/or ebna testing to evaluate the results? are the igm and ebna always ordered in tandem with the igg? i only have the igg results.

History of infection: An elevated VCA IgG shows a history of EBV infection but in isolation doesn't say if it's currently active- the other tests help show that, along with another called EA.They're usually ordered together.Almost all people in mid-20's or older have a positive IgG. The other tests are needed to see if it is chronic/reactivated. See https://labtestsonline.org/tests/epstein-barr-virus-ebv-antibody-tests
