Safer as a tea: This question is difficult to answer because this flowering plant is used primarily as a tea. It has a long history of folk use. It's claimed to have a wide range of benefits- see https://www.healthbenefitstimes.com/asian-pigeonwings/ for the most comprehensive article I found. I found NO info on eating it raw so I would be cautious. People can be allergic to any plant and it can cause diarrhea.
