Basics: The tonsils are glands located on both sides of the swallowing inlet. They are often involved in any infection that enters the body through this route.The label tonsillitis is just a locator, not a cause & treatment if any would depend on that cause. Viral illness accounts for at least 50% of these & they self heal. Strep A is the one worth treating & requires a simple 5 min office test to confirm
