A member asked:

I am trying to work out whether i have tonsillitis, because the back of my throat is really red and i think it is swollen!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

May need strep test: Sore throat and tonsillitis symptoms usually are evaluated by a rapid strep test in addition to an exam. If there are strep germs, antibiotics such as Amoxil (amoxicillin) or Zithromax are needed. Sometimes tonsils get whitish mucousy stuff on them. Other possible causes of throat symptoms include allergens, viruses, other irritants, stomach acid reflux, etc...
