Scitica: The popping and cracking may not be related unless there is pain in the lower back. A pinched nerve in the lower back can cause discomfort and pain in the gluteal region (buttocks). Irritation of the actual sciatic nerve such as from piriformis syndrome may do this as well. Referred pain unrelated to the sciatic is also possible. Consult your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
