Nostril pain: There probably is a tiny ulcer in the membrane that the inhaled air irritates. If the ulcer was on a vein, there would be a nose bleed as well. Take a decongestant medication like Sudafed, if you're able, and apply a small amount of white Vaseline to the lower membranes of both nostrils to coat any irritated areas. See your physician or an Otolaryngologist if no relief.

KY jelly: Why all the expensive tests for a virus???? You appear to have a rhinitis/ sinusitis. Allergy or virus, probably virus. Use a nasal or oral decongestant and LUBRICATE inside your nose twice a day. Vaseline or aquaphor will do nicely. KY jelly is especially nice. Just use a finger to gently roll around inside nose.
