Yes, but why?: Acyclovir works only against herpes simplex viruses (the causes of oral and genital herpes) and varicella zoster (the cause of shingles). It is not effective for any other medical condition and will not reliably prevent HSV or VZV infection if exposed. So why take it? But the drug is entirely safe, with very rare and mild side effects. No harm, but also no benefit.
