Infection: The presence of the sore throat amongst the other symptoms favors a viral upper respiratory tract infection. A head cold and/or mild cough may ensue. Treatment at this time is rest, intake of adequate fluids, gargling with warm salt water, lozenges and Tylenol. If no gradual improvement,appearance of rash or worsening of symptoms, an examination by a physician is warranted.
