A member asked:

Does a patient need a general practitioners prescription or a dermatologist prescription for oratane?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Since this drug can produce birth defects and liver failure it is considered a dangerous drug. Many physicians will not prescribe it, deferring to dermatologists who can select out those patients where it is considered worth the risks. Even then the prescribing physicians do specific blood testing to monitor any early warning signs that require stopping the med.
