A member asked:

Any physician can order testing done for celiac disease, but what type of doctor would know the most about it? i have solid reasons to be tested.

Screening/confirming: Any primary care physician can start the screening for CD. If the screening blood tests are positive a referral to a gastroenterologist would then be needed for the confirmatory studies. It is important that at least a minimal level of gluten be consumed in the weeks before testing for it to be accurate (slice of wheat bread/d X 3 wks)
