A member asked:

I understand that zopiclone (7.5mg) is for short term use, will it be possible for me to take it once a week for the long term? which is not everyday.

Abuse potential!: Zopiclone has the potential for being an agent of abuse & addiction. Therefore caution should be taken when prescribing this drug for insomnia. Also this drug can impair driving. Ideally, prescriptions of Zopiclone should be given for a short period of time & only within the recommended dosage guidelines. I therefore do not recommend long term use of this drug. I wish you well with your health!

With MD supervision: The medication may be taken once a week as needed for sleep under the guidance of your doctor. The same is true of changes in dosage - keep your doctor in the loop. While some people may take it long-term, the concerns associated with using it for extended periods of time are dependence on the medication -- although that may be less of a risk with weekly as compared to nightly dosing.
