A member asked:

Is it okay to raise your arms over your head, after, mitral valve heart surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Surgical approach: Depends on where your incision is. If you has sternotomy through middle of chest want to let bone heal for at least 6 weeks before fully raising arms above head.if you had thoracotomy on side of chest may be able to due this motion sooner say 4 weeks or so. Talk to your surgeon or the physical therapist doing your cardiac rehab and good luck!
