True: Historically the abdominal radiograph was performed in both supine and erect postures, but this practice has been discontinued due to concerns over often excessive radiation dose Now when a patient presents with an acute abdomen, a single supine abdominal radiograph is performed. If there is the clinical suspicion of an associated intra-abdominal perforation, then an erect chest ray may be done.

You will find out. : If you have persistent abdominal pain, vomiting and distention then you will need to be rechecked. In one study of 102 evaluations of bowel obstruction it was felt the erect film added significant more benefit in 4 of the cases.
