A member asked:

Can a e.r. dr miss the findings of a pregnancy in a ct scan?and how common is it to get preg.when tubes have been tied for 9 years.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Tubal failures: Tubal ligation can and does fail depending upon the manner in which the Fallopian tube was interrupted. The rate is 1/600 for some and 1/10,000 for tubal procedures that have been cut, tied, and separated. Unfortunately, tubes can re-canalize (put themselves back together) when improperly severed. A qualitative pregnancy test is still cheaper & golden rather than a CT scan for accuracy.
