A member asked:

I am a healthy 20 year old and have palpated vibrating at base of left carotid artery (above clavicle) for 2years, is it a thrill? is it bad to ignore

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ignore ?: I would not lose sleep over the issue. You should feel a pulse. The other structure next to the artery is the vein & some people will have a vibratory "venous hum" over that area when standing. If this is what you feel it would fade/be gone laying down. The hum represents normal blood flow back from the brain. You can bring it up the next time you are seen for anything to have it assessed
