Clinically, can patients having reflux or gerd present without any heartburn but rather only abdominal pains similar to that of gastritis or an ulcer?

Unusual: you can have reflux without heartburn but it is unusual. Abdominal pain is unusual symptom of Gerd and if it persists needs to be evaluated possibly with an endoscopy.
