Keep weight in : ideal range, BMI below 24, exercise (cardio/pulmonary) daily, avoid excess fats and salts (pre-prepared and canned food), don't smoke, and consult with your doctor for baseline lab tests including renal function and EKG. If your doctor feels an anti-hypertensive is necessary in addition to this then do so.
