Apparently so..: It is said that the ingredient in the bulb of the garlic is effective in lowering blood pressure, among an huge host of other beneficial effects. This belief goes back@ 6000 years, most prominently to the chinese and egyptian civilization. It is very highly used in germany, which is known for active use of many herbs, spices and natural remedies. And who could say no to garlic bread!

Mayo clinic says...: Per http://www.Mayoclinic.Org/medical-edge-newspaper-2010/mar-12b.Html , there is evidence that garlic may lower lipid levels, “relax smooth muscles ; dilate blood vessels”. 1 study showed that intake of 200 to 400 mg of garlic extract 3 x/day “can lower blood pressure modestly.”.
