A member asked:

Does cystitis cause a uti or does a uti cause cystitis. ive asked gp. but didnt understand answer. what comes first; chicken or egg?

Cystitis wins: Infections to the urinary tract begin in the urethra, ascend to the bladder(cystitis) where it can "go forth and multiply". If the infection is poorly or non treated it can further ascend to the kidneys.(pyelonephritis). Any or all of the above infect the urinary tract system(UTI). Untreated UTI's are "egged" on by non treatment and will "cluck" in pain, frequency, and bleeding eventually.
