A member asked:

Can you let me know is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis the same as cystic fibrosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Ipf is a disease of older patients that has no known cause and leads to thickening of the soft tissue in the lung. This causes poor movement of oxygen into the bloodstream. CF is a genetic disease usually diagnosed in childhood. Patients have an abnormal protein in some organs that causes mucous to thicken. In the lungs, this results in chronic infections and airway damage.
