A member asked:

I'm 32. can change in hormones trigger ibs flare ups? can increase levels of female hormones make ibs worst? after i entered my 30's my period changed

A doctor has provided 1 answer

IBS: IBS is generally not associated with hormonal fluctuations directly, but the stress from higher estrogen levels dropping at ovulation and just prior to menstruation can activate symptoms commonly acquired with the diagnosis of IBS. Low dose oral bcp's (in no contraindications exist) may reduce the stress via stopping ovarian production of estrogen. Ask your gyn provider.
