I assume these symptoms followed a viral upper respiratory tract infection. Chest tightness and breathing difficulties developed with tracheobronchitis. Wheezing would indicate an asthmatic component. If you want to loosen phlegm, drink liquids and take an expectorant type of cough syrup like plain robitussin. To relieve a dry,hacking cough get a cough suppressant syrup like robitussinDM. ?See MD
