What do YOU think?: From what you say it sounds like you have palpitations and you believe they are making you anxious. The definition of palpitations is "awareness of your own heartbeat" usually caused by anxiety, not the other way around. After numerous ER visits maybe you should give an SRI a one month trial and decide for yourself. There are lots of reasons to argue for or against but only you know what you feel.

MEDICATION: Your "therapist" has been outvoted by expert MD's. It may be time to seek a new Clinical Psychologist for your psychotherapy. Clinical Psychologists are behavioral scientists and are cognizant of medical advances. The most complete evaluation for this type of medication is with a Psychiatrist.
