Depends: Severe diabetes with it's multi-system effects can make pregnancy less likely or a health risk to the mother.However, a woman with diabetes can become pregnant & if well managed can have a relatively normal pregnancy.This often takes coordination between the diabetes team/ob & receiving pediatrician. Infants of diabetics are at risk of a variety of medical problems at birth. Many do quite well.
