Depends: Diabetes is not a pass thru defect or gene issue like eye color. Lifetime risk in offspring would be higher than the general population for type 1dm but not >5%. For type 2dm lifestyle(feeding) factors heavily influence lifetime risk and could be substantial.Healthy dietary & exercise practices decrease type 2 risks.

Not necessarily: There is evidence that a child has a higher risk of developing diabetes if a sibling is a diabetic than if either parent is.
