Deep Veins: Deep veins cannot be see by observation but they can be seen in the leg by an ultrasound and in the abdomen by a CAT scan or MRI. By looking at the leg one can see not only varicose veins which are bulging grape-like veins but also spider and blue (reticular) veins.
