I find a little honey with lemon juice works with most. Cough preparations were once commonly prescribed in the US. Studies eventually showed they have little if any benefit under age 6 and self medication by kids resulted in thousands of ER visits after overdoses. They have not been recommended here for decades.

If your toddler coughs for more than one week, has fever, wheezing or shortness of breath, please see your PCP. Post nasal drip may be relieved with nasal saline drops and gentle suction. I agree that for irritation of the throat and cough, honey may be used. Keep your child well hydrated and monitor temperature and breathing. Flu and COVID 19 testing is available, please check with your PCP.
