Not necessary : Hello, Seeing a specialist is not usually necessary to diagnose and treat an under active thyroid (hypothyroidism) and GP’s usually are perfectly competent to manage hypothyroidism. Eltroxin (levothyroxine) replaces thyroid hormone normally produced by the thyroid. It’s important to take it on an empty stomach daily and periodic monitoring is needed to determine if the dosing is correct. Good day
