A member asked:

Pulmonary edema is sometimes referred to as a wet lung. ards is referred to as a wet lung. why are they both called a wet lung?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wet lung: Both result in severe fluid buildup in the lungs, but pulmonary edema is the term associated with acute left ventricular heart failure as opposed to ARDS which occurs in settings where acute heart failure isn't the causative mechanism.
