Rest: It depends in part on the activity level that produced it. A stress fracture is a gradual process in which multiple periods of stress across the bone overcomes the repairative ability of the bone. It requires rest from the activity level that created it. A marathon runner may need to cut running till it heals, a more sedentary person may need a cast and crutches. Discuss with your md.

Stress fracture: See a podiatrist as most family doctors do no have a clue as how to treat this. You can have a stress fracture with negative initial xrays. Additional xrays are needed 3-4 weeks later which usually show healing.
