Yes, you can: Stress fractures usually occur from overuse, and the foot is a very common area to see this injury. Stress fractures typically cause pain, but may also cause swelling and discoloration. If you suspect a stress fracture see a physician for an x-ray, but don't be surprised if you may need an MRI as well. The "small" nature of most stress fractures can make them very hard to see on plain x-rays.
