Microtrauma: Regular fracture results from a direct trauma to the bone. Stress fractures are caused by multiple microtraumas to the bone, which causes the bone to weaken and then eventually break. Many things can cause a stress fracture in the foot. Typically its caused by an excessive load on an unsupported foot.

"Stress": A stress fracture is simply a cracked bone cause by repetitive micro trauma. Excessive activity is usually the cause. They are also caused march fractures as they occurred commonly in military personnel required to do excessive marching.
