"hot flushes": Low dose oral contraceptives are used to stop ovarian estrogen production which is much increased during peri-menopausal years: when high estrogen levels drop suddenly, "hot flushes" are common. Ask your gyn physician about low dose bcp's, and if no contraindications, may control these episodes until true menopause occurs, on average at age 54-56.
