Listen to your mom!: Anybody in the same household as a person with active TB is at risk, especially if the housekeeper has been working for the family for more than a couple of weeks. Your mom-in-law is right; Xray may or may not be needed, maybe just blood or skin tests. See a doctor for advice. Be supportive of your housekeeper: it's not her fault, and once she is on treatment, transmission risk is nil.

TB screening: I would advise that you see your PCP for screening. There is a blood test and skin test available.
