Brief "periods": At 21, this kind of bleeding is usually happening without ovulation, and pregnancy tests will be negative. Severe stress and polycystic ovarian syndrome can produce this kind of occasional bleeding due to continued estrogen production without ovulation. See your gyn provider for an exam and possibly starting oral bcp's if there are no contraindications.
