Our 11 month old has a cough with lots of phlegm, almost sounds like she's having trouble breathing when she coughs. she keeps waking up crying. what can we give her and when do we go to the er?

When you choose to: Cough is a protective reflex meant to bring up mucus/debris from deep in the lung to be removed. Most OTC meds are worthless. When a kid has difficulty taking fluids or strains to breathe it is time for them to be evaluated.
