Hard to be specific: Unlike many viruses the contagious period of HHV6 & HHV7, the causes of "baby measles" is difficult to pin down. Patients are certainly contagious during the acute illness, but patients can intermittently secrete the virus in their saliva or respiratory secretions for months or years thereafter. They often do so without symptoms. Most have been infected by age 2 & all by 4. Adults also pass virus.
