A member asked:

I would like to know if someone could keep his 3rd molar if it does not bother him? for example, if it could erupt without any discomfort.

Sometimes: Wisdom teeth are in a very difficult to reach area. Food and bacteria can get caught which may result in decay and bone loss on the distal of the second molar, a tooth you do not want damaged. If angled correctly, they will erupt without incident; if not, they my never erupt. Each person and each tooth is different, so your own dentist needs to assess your situation and advise you.

Wisdom teeth: Pain is not the only issue. Fully erupted wisdom teeth are hard to clean and therefore prone to bone/gum break down. Partially or fully impacted wisdom teeth are associated with damage to adjacent teeth, damage to surrounding bone/gums, cysts, and many other complications. See an Oral Surgeon for an examination and an explanation of your exact situation.
