Simple speaking: it is a term used to describe a type of CHRONIC PAIN which has certain diagnostic criteria. This condition used to be called "Relex Sympathetic Distrophy" since it was (is) thought that the Sympathetic nervous system is operating abnormally. Hope this is helpful! Dr Z
