Most wait until delivery before using maternity leave, since for most insurances , this "time off" is paid for by employers, and you will need the time since new babies tend to require extensive work by the mom and dad !

Do you qualify ?: Depending on the size of business or workplace, they may/not be requires to offer maternity leave with or without pay. You should check with your employer or their representative on the specifics. If your contract offers maternity leave, sick days and or personal time you can often combine them. Unless complications lay you up prior to delivery I would avoid using them until needed.
