Some CFU/ml is usual: Unlikely important. Usual standards for deciding a urinary tract infection present are: (1) symptoms c/w with UTI infection & (2) over 50,000 CFU/ml, rarely lower concentrations. Less than 1,000 CFU/mL considered usual due to bacteria on skin & in urethra. 1,000 to 100,000 CFU/mL may not reflect a UTI. Over 100,000 CFU/mL after good clean catch technique, UTI is likely. Gram + = H&E stain color.

No: These kind of numbers suggest a simple contaminant of normal skin germs (gram pos cocci) incidental to the collection process. They are often found hanging around the pee outlet & do not represent infection.
