A member asked:

Is surgery of the tonsils an alternative for some one who gets strep frequently? an if so what is the odds of them still getting strep without their tonsils?

Not particularly: Removal does reduce the intensity of a strep throat infection but it does not stop your risk of getting strep throat. Tonsil removal involve the 2 big "palatine" tonsils on either side, but you have other glandular tissue in the upper airway & throat that can become infected. If you plan on having a 3rd party (insurance) cover any of the surgical cost you will need to be pre-approved based on need
