You need to find out: Causes of Headaches vary from very common such as dehydration where the normally floating brain sags on its suspensory ligaments, and neck muscle tension, to extremely rare tumors. At 66, if you are experiencing head pain that is new for you, getting worse over time, and always occurs upon awakening you need a head CT or MRI now. If normal then you can explore other causes with your doctor.
