10 weeks and beyond: Noninvasive prenatal testing, also known as cell-free DNA testing, can be done as early as 10 weeks. Other screening tests are performed from 10-22 weeks depending on the test that is being performed (blood test, ultrasound, etc.). You can discuss the different options with your doctor to choose the testing best suited for you.

NIPP: The non invasive prenatal testing is invasive (they draw your blood) but certainly not like amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling which are risky to you and baby. They find fetal cells circulating in your blood after 10 wks and can test most things the other tests would do. It was often done for paternity testing in the beginning but is now used for many reasons.
