Visit a cardiologist: A person who gets chest pain or heart palpitations during sports gets to see her local cardiologist for an exam. The cardiologist can help decide if the patient is cleared to return to exercising. A treadmill test may be done to see what happens during exercise. An EKG to check the heart rhythm is done. A heart ultrasound scan may be done to look at the anatomy and blood flow of the heart.
