A member asked:

Is it possible for someone who is a salient carrier of alpha thalassaemia to have no health symptoms and be healthy throughout life?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: They often will show a lower red blood cell count & be considered anemic when they are at their norm, but this will usually not impair their health. Good nutrition and healthy living prevent a true iron deficiency anemia on top of their otherwise low readings.
