Would you say it is still heart disease after the person has surgery?

Specializes in General Surgery

Depends: Heart disease encompasses disorders of the 4 valves, the 3 coronary arteries, and the walls of the 4 chambers. Depending on the actual disease and surgical repair the "disease" might be corrected. However, ongoing monitoring might also be recommended. Okay to ask your surgeon. Good luck.

In general...yes: Bypass surgery (if that's what we're talking about). Surgically gets around the blockages to restore blood flow but doesn't eliminate them.
