Hard to say: A 6 mo with a hole in his heart usually just has a VSD, hole between the lower chambers. Some of these close on their own but the big ones can require repair through a catheter (umbrella closure) or open heart surgery. Their needs are unique to each case. These are readily fixed & the kids go on to live a normal life. Monitoring/meds/ supportive care are usually all they need.
