Must call the doctor: An older person with left shoulder or left arm pain symptoms may actually have a heart problem, so should to go to his doctor or the ER to be evaluated. That means not waiting at home to see if it becomes a chest pain heart issue. It could turn out to be a lung problem, a bone or muscle problem, a nerve problem, or an acid reflux problem, but a heart attack would be bad.
