Inner ear infection?: An inner ear infection is also called labyrinthitis. Usually it starts as a middle ear infection or otitis media, that extends to the inner ear. Vertigo, nausea and vomiting are the main signs. Middle ear infection are more common. Acute symptoms of ear pain will generally resolve in 2-4 days, once the infection is under control. Fluid in the ear may take up to 3 months to resolve.

Not long.: If the ear infection is treated with an antibiotic, which is usually but not always the case, it should improve in 1-3 days. If it hasn't, call your doctor, since it may be necessary to look again. And determine if the antibiotic should be changed. There are circumstances in which a doctor may choose watchful waiting rather than an antibiotic, then the ear should be rechecked within several days.

Inner ear?: An inner ear infection is characterized by severe vertigo and nerve deafness. Depending on the cause it may take up to a year for the imbalance and hearing loss to stabilize. I assume you are talking about a middle ear infection. The pain may resolve in 60% without antibiotics after a few days. Whether or not abx are needed it may take up to 3 mo for the hearing loss and other symptoms to clear.
